Have you ever - hiked Peak District, Central England
It was one of those days that we decided to take a trip down from Liverpool to Sheffield for day tripping and hill walking at Peak District National Park. We always talked about places to go when we were together, some of it didn't happen but I am glad this one did.
The train journey took about 1 hour and as you can see we were well-prepared, sort of. We've got our kits, warm clothing, snacks and friends with us. Everything was great, except the weather was rubbish. You know, it's just English weather you can't really trust the weather forecast most of the times. Be prepared or be punished.
Kinder Scout Walk |
There are actually many routes which you can take to go around in the national park but we went for the Kinder Scout walk as recommended by our experienced mountain climber cum navy officer - Wallace Meng. We basically took off from the Edale station through the village, passing by the Old Nags Head Bar and went all the way up to the Kinder Scout which is the highest point in Peak District. Wallace was also our guide and the rest of us just followed blindly without a single clue, or maybe it was just me. It would be fun, he said. But I can totally recall that it wasn't easy because we were caught in bad weather with rain and wind constantly lashing at us, and having our legs soaked in mud and puddles while we walked. Also, we got lost at one point.
Trig Point |
We made it to trig point of Kinder Low, which is the 'mighty' monument at the back but I am not sure if we made it to the summit of Kinder Scout. As you can see, the area was covered with thick fog and lots of rains so there wasn't really much to be seen up there. All I remember was there was lots of stones that come with different shapes and sizes and again mud was everywhere. We just took a picture with the monument and convinced ourselves that we did make it to the top of the hill.
Old Nags Head Bar |
We made it back to the ground in one piece after a couple of hours, famish and cold. The only thing we had on our mind was food so we had Sunday roast at the Old Nags Head Bar before heading back. That was my favourite part of this journey to be honest.
Overall, I guess we had a great time despite the rubbish weather.
